God has a resume’

Sometimes when we are teetering between faith in God and wholly trusting God for His promises to come to pass, we need to be reminded of His resume.

I am sure you can think of something God has previously done for you, some miracle or simply moving you on from a situation that wasn’t the best place for you.

I know I can think of a few things! What comes to mind happened a little over twenty years ago. I was new to the faith and I wanted to do everything right to please God. Well, this included confronting some things in my life that had gone lacking, like my driver’s license. I did everything I knew to do; call the courts, make appointment, make payments etc. and stood in faith. I stood in faith because I needed the amount to be reduced that I owed.

As I got the ball rolling I felt better, until I got pulled over by the police while doing everyday life. I took a chance on driving and it wasn’t going well. Don’t do that, today you can take an Uber! I gave the officer my license, he looked it up and came back to car. He asked where I was coming from and I said “church” Tuesday night service to be exact.

He said, “You’re in luck your driver’s license was just reinstated today, so no ticket, go get this updated and drive safe.” That was my miracle! The ticket was reduced alright, all I had to pay was the cost for a new driver’s card! The following day went to the DMV got a new card and gave God the glory! I was so excited I sat in the car and praised God. He showed me that hoping against hope works when your faith and trust is in Him to do the impossible. Wow! I still marvel at that today because I was a single mom back then with very little money and big faith in God.

God has a resume in Exodus 15:6-12

Your right hand, O Lord, is glorious in power. Your right hand, O Lord, smashes the enemy. In the greatness of your majesty, you overthrow those who rise against you. You unleash your blazing fury; it consumes them like straw. At the blast of your breath, the waters piled up! The surging waters stood straight like a wall; in the heart of the sea the deep waters became hard.

“The enemy boasted, ‘I will chase them and catch up with them. I will plunder them and consume them. I will flash my sword; my powerful hand will destroy them.’ 10 But you blew with your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters.

11 “Who is like you among the gods, O Lord— glorious in holiness, awesome in splendor, performing great wonders? 12 You raised your right hand, and the earth swallowed our enemies.

Just a reminder that He is still on the throne and hasn’t handed over the steering wheel of your life to an enemy. Choose to trust that He is going to annihilate your enemy, gain glory for His name and rescue you in the process. He loves us too much to leave us in the middle of a mess, His Word says, He always causes us to triumph(2 Corinthians 2:14).

You know God’s gotten you out in a pinch before, He can do it again. There are miracles in the mundane, however when God delivers He is in the business of making sure everyone knows who He is so it’s okay to look for Him to do it big because that’s who He is, a big God, doing big things, in big love for a people He calls His own.

That’s you and me. If you begin to wonder or wander just look at God’s resume, it’s pretty extensive. I’ll leave you with this:

So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:

They kill us in cold blood because they hate you. We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one.

None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.

Remember, don’t throw away your confidence in God, because it has a reward (Hebrews 10:35)
